Wine & Champagne

March 17th, 2008

The Moet & Chandon champagne from France

As per practice at every Chinese wedding dinner, alcohol is A MUST; the type depends on the host but you definitely cannot have a Chinese dinner without booze.

For the reception, we chose to supply our guests with beer, Guinness stout, brandy/whisky and wine. Initially, I thought we would have leftover bottles of wine by the time the night was out but to my amazement, the wine was the first to go before the 6th dish was out! Everyone LOVED the fruity, mild and slightly sweet taste of the sparkling wine…

So here is the lowdown on the wine and champagne we dished out that night.

Nil brought about 24 bottles of Clairette de Die (the wine) all the way from France. Clairette is a sparkling wine, not to be confused with champagne which is totally different, that is to be drunk as a dessert wine but by some confusion somewhere, the wait team AND my parents decided to uncork and serve it as a full fledge main course wine. It’s not really a big deal anyway… Each bottle serves five glasses but we found people taking second and even third helpings!!! O’well…

The champagne we opened for the toasting ceremony is a Moet & Chandon 2004 Brut Imperial…I think. Nil and I seem to have a problem remembering exactly what it was - all we know is that it’s an M&C from France. The M&C retails in Malaysia for more than RM100 per bottle. The last I checked, it costs slightly over RM200 for a good bottle of M&C. It’s slightly fruity but a bit more tangy than the Clairette. Oh, and it’s more expensive too! *kekeke*

At the end of the reception, we still had some beer and stout leftover but no more wine and definitely no more champagne! I guess you could say that my guests have truly “refined” taste!

Verdict
My SA, Pam, managed to accommodate us at the very last minute - we wanted to choose our gowns a week after putting the deposit, and the photoshoot to go on the very next week. We were on a tight schedule and they were wonderful throughout the whole thing. The photographer was funny, doubled as a make-up and hair person, and accommodating - we used the bouquet I did for my registration (the day before) in the photoshoot. Even though the make-up was thick, it came out looking great in the photos; all thanks to Candy, the MUA.

Everyone was pleasant, friendly and very patient! The only downside to the whole deal was the design which was disappointing. I had to go in and do the 15 pages by myself. I suppose it’s because I wasn’t really into the templates that they had. Otherwise, the photographs speak for themselves.

We had a number of compliments from the overseas guests about how professional the pictures turned out. So I guess that’s a plus!

The wedding rings

The wedding is over, the move complete and here I am, a married woman living in Switzerland.

The journey has been amazing, to say the least.

Here are some snaps of that eventful and memorable day from an amazing and talented photographer, Joshua Teoh.
